Our region
In the Tertiary period, about 35 million years ago, the Upper Rhine Graben together with the Mainz Basin was formed due to extensive movements of the earth's crust. The subsidence created a gigantic subtropical sea, where our homeland is located today. Today our vines grow on these distinctive sediments, millions of years old. The deep roots of our ancient vines literally soak up these minerals and give our wines this unique flavor. So expressive that our selected wines blend with the characteristics of the marine life of the time.
